Dr. Brynn Winegard shared an incredible message about our brains. A goldfish has an attention span of eight seconds. A human: seven seconds. However, a goldfish forgets everything after 27 seconds. Humans remember up to 90 years plus.
Habits of highly successful people include working for 45 minutes and then resting the brain for 15 minutes. Productivity is a series of sprints, not a marathon. And the quality of our work is dictated by the quality of our rest. Eat properly (high fat & protein), rest as much as your brain needs (until you wake up and you can’t remember your dreams) and drink LOTS of water. The brain is 90% water. Good news, coffee is very good for your brain. Lifelong learning is vital for great brain health. Oh, and reduce stress as much as possible – very important.
Kelly Dobson, LeaderShift Inc. – “Poor leadership is like heating a farm shop in January with no insulation.” The top 10% of leaders have double the profits of the middle 80% of farm leaders. Think of those farmers that show the yield monitors on the best part of their land. That is like the top 10% of leaders. We can lead up. Leadership is not just about those in power.
Quinn Durant, RBC – “Twitter used to be banned on my computer. Now I have a screen devoted to watching Trump on Twitter. He can move the market 15 basis points with one tweet.” Quinn suggests that money is the cheapest it has been in a very long time. Lock it in for as long as you can.
Scott Kehler, Weatherlogics – Did you know that one acre of corn can release 400,000 gallons of moisture into the atmosphere in one growing season? Farmers’ crops can affect the weather. The weather for 2020 is more difficult to predict than other years as there is no El Niño or La Niña.
Chris Hadfield, Astronaut – About 80 million HP on the shuttle burns 12 tons of fuel in a second. How does that compare to a farmer’s tractor? The space station was built by 15 countries that have not always gotten along. Challenge people and they behave differently. A ‘choke point’ keeps you from your next success. ‘What if’ is the essence of change. Early failure is the secret to success. It gives you time to react when the stakes are low. Early success is a terrible teacher. Every person around us has done something we haven’t done. Everyone is doing something heroic.
