Prior to that, Mark was a partner in his family’s farm and worked full-time in crop inputs. Brenda, whose background was as a grain trader, branched out as an independent consultant and market analyst. Contributing her insight to newsletters and speaking at events, Brenda had more and more farmers approaching her for one-on-one advice about marketing their crops.
The couple saw a need for growers to have someone who could provide not just unbiased, expert opinion, but who would also understand the specific business and cash flow requirements of their farms. This was the innovative opportunity that inspired Mark and Brenda to launch FarmLink – they were able to marry the dynamics of the market with the realities and needs of individual farmers.
